Seeking natural colors for foods and beverages |
| |
PepsiCo is evaluating different natural color ingredients and technologies to replace Yellow #5, Yellow #6, Red #40, and Blue #1 for multiple food and beverage brands in order to address consumer demand. Specific challenges are in the Red #40 (food) and Blue #1 (food & beverage) replacers. |
Seeking Recyclable Closure for Paper Beverage Bottles |
| |
We are seeking technologies for a re-closable fiber-based closure for a paper beverage bottle that can be recycled in the paper stream. |
Seeking technologies to reduce GHGs in all aspects of the supply chain and manufacturing process. |
| |
PepsiCo is committed to reducing GHG emissions from seed to shelf. We are looking to engage with partners who can assist us in our goal of reducing GHG 20% by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. As new technologies emerge, efficiencies will be gained and PepsiCo aims to remain at the forefront of best practices in the food and beverage industry. PepsiCo is seeking technologies to reduce GHGs in all aspects of the supply chain and manufacturing process. Solutions may be in one or more of the following areas: • Agriculture – sustainable farming and the reduction of GHG intensive fertilizers • Manufacturing – adopting energy efficient manufacturing processes; novel methods for utilizing waste; use of renewable thermal energy at scale • Packaging – alternative packaging materials and formats that reduce GHGs • Distribution – technologies to assist in the efficiency of our company-owned and third party fleet |
Intelligent system for autonomous control in robotics cooperation |
| |
Over the last decade, there has been a strong scientific and industrial concern in robotic cooperation. From problems of surveillance in industrial, commercial or domestic environments, or rescue and help in catastrophic areas, till problems of efficient package delivery in companies like Amazon or DHL, require mathematical optimization algorithms that solve these problems optimally and efficiently through the deployment of cooperative robot teams. The cooperatTive ExploRation Routing Algorithm (TERRA) is a planning system that, using artificial intelligence techniques, allows a team of robots to combine their capabilities to complete more complex tasks. For this, TERRA implements a novel robotic cooperation paradigm that offers a solution to the problems mentioned in the previous paragraph. This exploration paradigm uses a ground vehicle to reach terrestrial targets and, a drone team to reach the aerial targets. Unlike other route planners, TERRA coordinates and plans efficient routes that meet the objectives set in the shortest time with the greatest cost savings. |
High-definition respiratory monitoring tool - Bainisha's Twin Chest System |
| |
Current technology Current systems for measuring/monitoring respiratory movements (such as Thorax displacement) @ medical level, rely on one single technology: Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) aka "accelerometry". The resulting data of such measurements however are very often inadequate & hard or impossible to interpret. Problem E.g. the raw IMU-data output of coughing may look exactly the same as the raw IMU-data of riding a bike on really bumpy road ! When such type of confusion arises, it is impossible to distinguish between very different events. Solution A second sensor technology is added: a very thin, ultra-stretchable, very accurate displacement sensor. This sensor is fixed to the body as a simple self-adhesive patch. The fixation is of such a high quality and "integrates" with the skin so thoroughly, that it is nick-named a "Second Skin"-sensor. Together with the on-board IMU the "Second Skin" sensor forms a Sensor Fusion System. I.e. by cross-linking the raw data of two very different sensor concepts all uncertainties, "grey"-zones and impossible to interpret situations are eliminated. The sensor-fusion concept also widens and multiplies the capabilities for capturing a multitude of different types of "body language/events" |
Peptide for Titanium and Biomaterial Surface Coating for Enhanced Osseointegration |
| |
Our research involves the modification of a recently patented molecule that contains L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) and other bonding peptides to increase osseointegration on metal surfaces, particularly titanium. Lab results show that when coated with this molecule, titanium surfaces showed increased signs of bio-compatibility, which is backed up by published scientific research. The technology has the potential of improving osteosynthesis and orthopedic implants, as well as many other types of surgical implants. The BBZ is looking for licensing, joint R&D, or ownership opportunities regarding this technology. |
